About Berlin

ABOUT BERLIN

Since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, Berlin has evolved into one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations, mixing rich history with a dynamic atmosphere that has made the city a magnet for young people from all over the world.

Berlin offers visitor and resident alike a wealth of historic sites, incredible architecture, legendary nightlife, vibrant street markets, lush parks and top-class shopping. Sightseers are spoiled for choice – from the awe-inspiring Reichstag parliament building to the 200-year-old Brandenburg Gate to futuristic Potsdamer Platz near where the EPT is being held.

In some ways, Berlin defies categorization – its various neighbourhoods all have their own unique characters – from chic Kürfurstendamm to central, historic Mitte, bohemiam Kreuzberg and arty Prenzlauer Berg.

Berlin is a centre for the arts, with dozens of museums, galleries and theatres, and a reputation for the avant-garde in fashion, design and music. Street art thrives - with the longest and best-preserved part of the Berlin Wall now converted into a 1.3km dedicated art gallery.

The home of techno, Berlin is also famed for its great clubs and has a well-earned reputation as a party town. Berlin’s Berghain club was voted the best in the world this year. Many bars and restaurants are open all night long – making Berlin the perfect venue for a major poker tournament.
