The first EPT Season 5 event in Barcelona proved an exciting start to the year. Gran Casino Barcelona hosted, with a record 619 players and prize pool of nearly €5 million. German ShootingStar player Sebastian Ruthenburg outlasted a classy final table including EPT San Remo champion Jason Mercier and WSOP bracelet winner Davidi Kitai to take the title. Ruthenberg, who also won a WSOP Bracelet last year, took home a massive €1,361,000 after defeating Irish PokerStars qualifier Fintan Gavin after a brief heads-up tussle.

Players included Team PokerStars Pros Isabelle Mercier, Noah Boeken, William Thorson, Vicky Coren, Dario Minieri, ElkY, Luca Pagano and former world champion Greg Raymer as well as 104 players who won their seats online with PokerStars.

WELCOME PARTY

PokerStars is hosting a spectacular welcome party for EPT Barcelona on Thursday 3rd September at Shoko, Paseo Marítimo (next door to Port Olympic marina and in front of Gran Casino). All players and media are invited; all PokerStars players will get priority access.

The party starts at 8pm with free bar until 11pm, finger food, magicians, fire dancers and other entertainment. At 9pm, the Guinness Book of World Records will be presenting French Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier with his world record for playing the most Sit & Go tournaments. ElkY set the record while at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo in April.
