Naujoks – known as the "Black Mamba" - took down Germany’s biggest ever poker tournament after a tense heads up battle against fellow German Holger Kanisch. An all-in with aces over jacks gave Naujoks the momentum she needed and despite a battling comeback from Kanisch, the 27-year-old from Dessau kept up the pressure. She was apologetic when, all in with A9, she picked up a 9 on the turn to pair up and defeat Kanisch’s AQ but her victory and €917,000 top prize was very truly deserved.
The tournament was bitter-sweet for Team PokerStars Pros William Thorson and Luca Pagano who both, yet again, made an EPT final table without winning an EPT title. For Pagano, it was a record 10th EPT cash while Portuguese player Joao Barbosa’s 36th place finish gave him record sixth cash in one season. A total of 667 players competed at Casino Hohensyburg including 145 players who won their seats online with PokerStars.
