The first ever Hungarian EPT took place October 2008 at the Las Vegas Casino in the Sofitel Hotel in the stunning city of Budapest. The €4,350, four-day No Limit Hold’em Hungarian Open followed the phenomenal success of earlier Eastern European debuts in Prague and Warsaw and attracted an enormous field of 532 players from all over the world.

The young Norwegian star Johnny Lodden was playing his first ever event as a PokerStars sponsored player and more than proved his mettle with a final table appearance and eighth place finish. The final also brought the young Danish pro Albert Iverson and popular Italian player Gino Alacqua to attention – Alacqua was on his second EPT final table in a year. Zoltan Toth was the highest-placed Hungarian, finishing in seventh place.

But it was the engaging British player Will Fry who won through in the end to take down a €595,839 first prize after seeing off Romanian Ciprian Hrisca.
