EPT Budapest - About the City

BUDAPEST

Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, rich in both natural and architectural beauty. With a population of over 1.5 million, the city lies on both sides of the River Danube - Buda on the west bank and Pest on the east. Budapest is famed for its spas - there are more than 100 in the capital alone and 70 million litres of thermal water are produced by the city's hot springs.

Budapest has a rich history and unique cultural heritage - beautiful palaces, churches and numerous museums, the remains of Roman fortresses and buildings, authentic Turkish baths, Gothic and Baroque buildings, and Art Nouveau architecture. Budapest is also home to Europe’s largest functioning synagogue and the continent's first underground railway.

HOW TO GET THERE

Air: Budapest (Ferihegy) International Airport is connected with most major European cities by direct flights. There is scheduled service between Budapest and North America, operated by Malév and Delta Air Lines. The airport lies ten miles south-east of the city centre.

Airport minibus: The Airport Minibus service is popular and relatively cheap. For HUF 2,300 (just under €10) it will drop passengers anywhere within the city limits.

Taxi: A taxi will cost around 6,000 forint (approximately €24) to the city centre. Budapest taxis have yellow number plates and a taxi sign in yellow. (Any vehicle without these features is operating illegally.)
