EPT London

EPT London, which takes place October 1-5, 2008, is set to be a spectacular tournament this year, thanks to PokerStars adding on £250,000 to create a £1 million guaranteed first prize. This is the first time that PokerStars has offered a guaranteed first prize at an EPT and it's likely to attract a massive field of players from all over the world. Among those set to play are Team PokerStars Pros Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Rousso, Chad Brown and Isabelle Mercier, as well as Vicky Coren who won the event in Season 3.

The addition of the first ever European Poker Tour high roller event - the “PokerStars.com EPT London £1m Showdown” - will also pique interest during the EPT. The £20,000 + £300 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament takes place on October 5 and 6, with the final table filmed for broadcast. PokerStars is adding to the attraction of the event by guaranteeing a £1 million prize pool. Team PokerStars Pros Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein and Alex Kravchenko are all set to play in this unique event. Satellites are running now for both the main event and the £1 million showdown.

Last season nearly 400 players packed in to London's Victoria Casino, hungry for EPT glory and a slice of the huge £2 million prize pool. After five days of intense competition, PokerStars qualifer Joseph Mouawad banked the biggest pay-cheque of his poker career after beating German ace Florian Langmann to the £611,000 top prize.

Mouawad took control of the tournament with five players remaining. Langmann raised with pocket fours, only for Mouawad to come over the top with A-K. But Langmann wasn't ready to leave it there. He shoved his whole stack over the line, challenging his opponent to play for his tournament life. Mouawad was ready though, and his courageous call was rewarded with a King on the turn and a game-changing pot that sent him hurtling to victory.

PokerStars qualifiers claimed more than half the total prize pool in London and four made it all the way to the final table! Also in the money was former WSOP Champion Chris Moneymaker of Team PokerStars Pro.
